"Indie-rock sensations The Trusted recently released their latest EP, Love and Suicide. The four piece from Southend let us have a sneaky preview before the release to bring you the latest and greatest reviews, right as you want them. 

Opening with previously released single 'The Innocent', the EP begins by creating a picture of teenage dreams and implementing relatable scenarios in the audience's heads. Broken apart by a rhythmic guitar riff between verse and chorus, the fine line between dreams and reality are defined.

The story progresses with my personal favourite track on the album, 'Horizontal Mind'. The song delves into the depths an overthinking mind. It explores issues in relationships and gives the effect of being on a rollercoaster with frantic solos and drum beats, representing the issues hinted at. The song is topped off with the guitar riff guaranteed to be stuck in your head for months with complementing bass lines and a vocal range unlike any other song previously released by the band. The musicianship of all four members becomes apparent in their tight knit rhythms and melodic solos. The song finishes suddenly, hinting at a change in atmosphere and emotion, as the EP shifts to the title track, 'Love and Suicide'.

The first thing that stood out for me about the title track was the extreme cleverness of the lyricism combined with contradictory rhythmic riffs. The shift in emotion across the EP demonstrates a progressive journey, and this track is a key turning point within that. The lyrics, as the title suggests, are one big juxtaposition and can be interpreted in different ways. Personally, I view it as the conflict within a persons head while trying to deal with struggles and trying to get out of their head. Complimented with haunting guitar riffs and drums that represent rhythms typically associated with marching and missions, a concept of an escape plan out of the scenario formulates and builds up to the gradual release of tension at the end of the song, where the guitar echoes the vocals and it all pieces together in regularity.

Finally, the EP ends on a high with another previously released single, 'Wild Love'. The song positions the audience on a happy note of being wild and free, fulfilling the dreams portrayed in 'The Innocent'. The uplifting tune includes layered guitar solos, complimentary rhythms and vocals that radiate happiness in any room. The rollercoaster of emotions draws to a close with a final note, dragging out as though a sigh reflecting on everything previously happened.

The EP as a whole is definitely something to fall wildly in love with."
